Hi Romy and othersI am in the initial stage of planning a new home, which will have a dedicated music room. I noticed Romy in another thread you were impressed with the rough stone walling. This looks like a great way to disperse reflections. What I ...

Moreart, if you ask my opinion then let me to decide what is relevant. Your idea of “how” your horn work is self-delusional in my view as whatever you imagine you do go overridden by deficiency of your mouths and by other problems that your enclosure...

The horn mouth will be 3-4 foot from the wall but you are right the MF/HF will be closer if i dont delay them so i can bring them out from the wall. If i line them up purely acousticly then they will move forward at least two more feet which puts the...

When i Moved in my new house in july 2000, it took me 6 months to get my speakers and general system togeather and working. The narrow band that your vitavox 15 inchers will be working in, how does that relate to your infinite baffle? 60Hz to 350Hz i...

of MTM arrangement of two TAD 1201 in <100 Hz Horn ? I assume they would both work in the same frequency range . Also JBL LE8 is only 89 db driver and it doesn't look like it can take any power . Difference in efficiency within the channels would ...
The idea of 360 degree radiation of sound has great intuitive appeal to me since I feel the best recordings are done with two omnidirectional microphones. The most precise reproduction of the musical event would seem to be: ...

Since I learned today quite a bit about the Ralf’s horns I do not particularly have a lot of interest about the selection of his drivers but the stupid habit of the “derivers anonymity” is something that I do not like. I do understand when commercial...
So, what is the solution for a mono system? Also, I remmember that your mono experiments with field coild S2 produced honk .Should you use stereo drivers to get better results
Use stereo system to play mono, a properly ma...

Hi Romy
a good sound in a room does not depend only on the speaker chain, but essencially also of the room acoustics. Probably many of the Trio systems didn’t sound right just because of that…. I was at Holgers Home in Lautersbach back in 94. He ha...

I've been waiting for something to turn up on the wooden "horn/backhorn" speakers used by Ayon (at Newport Beach 2014) when I stepped in. I checked Ayon's webite and found out that Ayon offers their own line of speakers, none of which are the ones I...

I think we are all agreed that if time alignment and space were not issues, a bass horn would be the way to go.Now, I'm fairly convinced that the overwhelming benefit of horns in this range is the phase response, ie flat group delay vs frequency. Mos...

When you say, your horns are 11feet apart, does this mean from acoustic centre line, or the outside perimeter of the upper bass horn. If it is from the outside perimeter of the upper bass horn you are having a similar setup with mine. When they are a...

Well a DEQX will cost you less than a set of good caps! you can buy one and play around with it for a couple of months and see for yourself, you will have fun anyway and thats what tis all about! You will need and extra preamp and 3 different amps...

Well, it is a given that I am not a horn guy right now to begin with. Of course, the "theater speakers" were and are mostly dinosaurs and/or mostly of historical/nostalgic interest. I just want to mention some excepti...

I believe that those "allien sounds" are an enhancement of the frequencies comprised in what is called the singer's formant, which is the area of the third formant when opera singers sing vowels. That area is in the range of 3.5 to 5.5 KHz and is a s...

user="jeff1225"]Romy,When you say that the Vitavox 15" was the
best midbass you heard, was it in a Vitavox corner horn? I'm think about
acquiring or building a pair of Vitavox corner horns as I have a perfect room
for them.

I think you are saying the effects of my room may be dominating any problems with the Edgarhorn bass, or at least I can't know since I don't have any objective data. Is this correct?
Maybe you're right. But here is wh...

I do not think he does anything with his company. He is known for years helping other DIYers like himself to make theirs loudspea...

thanks I have a few questions to ask if you do not mind:
1) Did you experiment with surface of the horns and a negative contribution of smooth surface to Sound?Smooth surface are fine don't waste my time on a trival matters.

Romy,
Funny stuff... especially the the AN piece. Equally surprised octopodes ? Brilliant !
As for the Bruce Edgar post ? Not as funny. And it's off base.
The Titan II system has a straight axis upper bass horn instead of a folded upper bas...

Last week I spent a few hours at the scene of NY’s Stereophile Show – HE 2004: a half-day on Thursday and 2 hours on Friday. As many other audio-shows it had many semi-ugly colorations, however as any audio shows this zoo trip brought it’s own “inter...

Someone stopped me at the Alexis Park and told me: “Romy, there is a new Israeli guy in town with his amassing horn. He has a room at the St. Tropes and you should go”. I was almost offended! There was a new horn guy and I never insulted him?!!...

Romy, I re-read your comments a few times to better understand your feedback. I think you are saying the effects of my room may be dominating any problems with the Edgarhorn bass, or at least I can't know since I don't have any objective data. Is t...

Its funny you mention this because i'm experimenting with very cheap PC
speakers and these are pretty bad but its still amazing what they can
do with a good sub and some EQ.
So this cat also snifs a garbage can once in a while :)
Did I ever mention my sulphur hexafluoride idea to you? You fill a horn with this gas, sealing the front with some loose fitting heavy grade mylar or whatever. The horn can then be 44% of the size you'd otherwise need.
Hm, ...
Don't be pissed about me keeping you in the dark regarding the ribbons; your comments elsewhere on the Nolas and ribbons in general had me loathe to make any recommendations. I think we may have very different tastes in terms of tre...
